The buzz surrounding this year's gaming ceremony reached a fever pitch, especially after host Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious photo of a desert monolith. The secret has been revealed. Larian Studios is creating a brand-new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer featuring intense imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the very descent into chaos.
A Different Direction
For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian warned that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not on the cards right now.
Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This phrasing implies that the team is likely designing a real-time experience as opposed to another tactical title. At this moment, this is speculation, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it kicked off the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and deep class systems—elements that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with unique possibilities that are viable with a specific type of character with a unique decision path.
The series is also wonderfully open-ended, letting players to find creative solutions both in story and combat. Most missions can be approached in diverse methods, frequently in surprising fashion.
- You might progress the story because you heeded something a dog told you.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.
The Journey Continues
It is this design philosophy that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games in history. Now, fans can look forward to another adventure in this legendary franchise.
